The mac has unzip capabilities built-in. All you need to do to unzip a file (whether it be nls, bookshare, or an archive downloaded from somewhere else) is just to vo-space or command-o on the file in finder. This will create a folder with the same name as the zip file, and place all your files from the zip archive into that folder. You can then copy those files (from the new folder) into your reader, and they'll work just fine. This also works for tar and g zip files as well as a few others too, so you need not worry about installing an unarchiving program on the mac, since it's already there for you.
