there is an easy way to do that too. Just go to the airport menu in the task menu and select join network and there's an option to make your preferred network your default.

Hi,Thanks very much. I managed to figure it out by going into the system settings and actually eliminating some junk networks that got added while I was down on the beach. This is one area that I think Windows does very well - namely, if no prefered networks are in range, it will give you a list that includes the server's status (password protected, open, etc.). It would always automatically pick up anything in one's prefered network list if it's there and not run the user through a full set of the things a user needs to do to get through the network diagnostics that Safari dumps you into.I also found that the help files on this matter are pretty lacking so I used the old trick of deleting all networks and starting over. Hence, the problem seems to be gone.cdh On Mar 9, 2009, at 3:21 PM, Chantel Cuddemi wrote:Hi, Chris, Is your network in your preferred network list? If so, you should be able to connect just fine without any issues.I have never seen this issue before, since I am a new mac user, but you should've been able to connect to your network just fine if it is in your list of networks.Hth, Chantel. r --- On Mon, 3/9/09, Chris Hofstader <cdh@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:From: Chris Hofstader <cdh@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [macvoiceover] Network Issues To: macvoiceover@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Monday, March 9, 2009, 12:17 PM Hi Everyone, I spent last week hiding out in South Beach trying to work on CSUN stuff for Raising The Floor (RTFI) and doing some testing on URC stuff (www.myurc.org). When I got home, my wireless networking started working very strangely. Specifically, if I open Safari, I get the page that says I'm not connected and asking if I want to run network diagnostics. I go into the diagnostics utility, follow all of the instructions to hook up with my home router and all is happy again. Unfortunately, I have to go through this routine everytime I turn the Mac on. Does anyone know how I can get the Mac to the state it was in before I went south for a little bit of disappearing into the world of the rich and beautiful (of which I am neither). While down in South Florida, I was able to get a connection if I plugged directly into the Ethernet cable in the apartment where I was staying. This worked pretty well but required fiddling with the cable modem every time we switched computers. Meanwhile, although I have a t-Mobile account, I could not get online at Starbuck's which sort of boggled my mind as I've used this same Macintosh at other Starbuck's around the country. Unrelated: Can someone send me the link to download and install the new Safari beta? I'd like to give some Aria pages a run for their money versus JAWS 10.0 before I get to Los Angeles and get slammed by the FS marketing machine.
