For the reference for others looking at this later:
I think the best solution in my case is to use CMD+Numbers 1 to 3 for looking
up someting in a different folder like inbox or sent messages. The Accent key
(or CMD+Shift+Circumflex (two keys right from 0 on a Swiss German keyboard)
brings me back to a message I'm writing.

I think you should try that, before you do, be sure you have more than one
window open, otherwise it will appear not to work.
that keyboard appears to mirror mine. I wonder whether a keyboard can be
changed ?

Kelvin, thanks, it's where I thought it to be at first. But CMD+Accent
doesn't work for me. It must be a Swiss keyboard thing, because this key
pressed alone is paragraph. I found the accent key though: It's two keys
right from the number 0 and it's a circumflex on my system. It only becomes
an accent if I press it together with shift. But of course
Cmd+Shift+Circumflex doesn't work.
Do you think I could change that? and bring the accent key to the key left
to number 1?

Hi Kelvin, thanks! Now I just have to figure out where on a Swiss German
Keyboard the accent key might be :-) No luck yet, guess I'll ask a
sighted person some time.

Hi all
Is it possible to open mails kind of in a separate window? When I'm in
the process of writing a mail I have to look up something I wrote in
another mail of the inbox or a sent message sometimes. Is there a way
to keep the message I already started to write open, say press command
and tab, look up another mail and get back to my first message with
command and tab? It's something I had when I did my mails under windows
and something I'd love to have on the mac now as well. I'm sure there
is a way but I just haven't found it yet ...
Thanks and kind regards
Ben
