[macvoiceover] Re: Installing the new cat

it actually not be the way it was for leopard do don't count on that option being available in the installer. using disc utility do prepare the disc will always work.

Exactly. It'll save you time and effort. You don't need to do an extra step just to install snow lepard.

when you install, the stuff will be eraised if you choose that option wright there in the installer. no use going through disk utility.

That's what I plan to do. So it would be something like:
1. Backup.
2. Backup again on a different drive.
3. Start up with the C key down with the cd in to get into the installer.
4. See if VO will talk.
5. Use Disk Utility to whack everything on my drive.
6. Run the installer and install it.
7. Use the assistant to configure.
8. Reinstall all apps that are known to be compatible.
9. Move my data back to the Mac.
10. Fall asleep in my chair after all that work. lol

it's not hard to find but it is also not necessary unless your current os is corrupt. doing the upgrade is seemless and easy. to do an erace and install, you will need to erace the drive first. this can take several hours. upgrading the os will take less than an hour. installing the os after erace will take about the same amount of time but then you have to go through the setup assistant and configure your system from scratch.

I am not that brave.
If anybody uses any other install options other than upgrading, please tell us how that goes. I plan to use the clean install but heard it's harder to find to avoid confusing new users. Remember to make a backup of important things before you do any kind of OS install, be it upgrading or otherwise.

Hello,

I just preordered the cat today. smile
When I get it, I'll get sighted help for the install so will let the list know how much help I need as I've never had anything with a talking install and don't believe it until I hear it!

I was wondering, as I'm sure everyone's either preordered or is going to pre-order the next big cat, how easy it will be to install with no sighted assistance. would someone maybe be so kind to possibly write a guide. I want to be able to do this but I'm a little apprhensive. obviously never installed an OS before. a little daunting to say the least.
