Hi Ian,
I’m honestly not sure. My webmaster changed providers several years ago to
a much more affordable one. I’ll see if I can find out. If I heard the name,
I’d recognize it, but my old brain is not recalling it.

Thanks John, who do you use for hosting and domain?
I ask that with all the confidence of someone who has recently been asked
regarding our church site also done through Wordpress. Clearly I didn’t have
an answer.

John,
Thanks again. Your blog is just the thing.
I don’t have a web site of my own, so are you saying that wordpress will
set up a web address for you?

Hi Ian,
My site is using the word press platform, but it’s not controlled by
Wordpress. I had one on Wordpress separately in which I had a Wordpress
address as part of the URL. If you are using the Wordpress template, you
can have a blogging and set it up with your website as mine is.
Mars Edit is specifically a word press blogging package. You simply set
up your log in information for your blog in Mars Edit and can then edit
your site with posts or pages. You can upload video or audio, etc. It
gives you full control over your blog.

Just realized I hadn’t hit send on this, John, here are my questions
pasted back in.
Keith, I think I’m about 30 minutes further along than you, in that after
your email I thought, that’s right, I need to get off my butt and do that
blog thing too, then spent about half an hour investigoogling before I
thought I’d better just note down my questions and thoughts and bounce
them back to the list. I also got to the stage of, but wait, what do I
actually want to write about.
***my thoughts and questions again***
I’m also in the very beginning pondering phase of starting a blog. John
and others, can you validate some of the things I’ve noted in my
investigoogling?
There are two ways to do WordPress, one has you install their software on
your own web server, the other, through Wordpress.com takes care of
everything for you once you sign up, but the choices are limited to what
they offer.
If you are going the Wordpress.com route, the first step is to sign up
and pick a theme.
It’s best to have sighted assistance when picking a theme because it is
about the look and you want it to look good.
Once you have your theme picked, you use a web interface to add content
like text, photos and links.
About Mars Edit
Mars Edit is an off line editor that takes the place of the web Wordpress
interface.
Questions I can’t find answers to
Can you use Mars Edit with a Wordpress.com site?
Thanks for any wisdom, Keith does this track with what you’ve found as
you embark?

Hello John and Ian.
First of all John thank you for responding to this thread and Ian I
think that you are a little farther in your quest at least you are able
to ask some questions.
John, Can you send us a link to your blog so that we can see what you
are doing with it?
I think that this is the first thing for me to see.
Thanks all.
