But once it's loaded it's there. It's like a slow download, you do something else until it is finished or did it lock your system?

I class iTunes in the same light as Windows Media player.  Both

preferences to achieve this.  I mean Winamp and VLC don't require it.

Long live VLC on the Mac and Winamp in Windows.
