Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do except to trade off verbosity in 
its choices.  It won't take all the sounds away but if the only item there 
you have set to play tone for is links, at least some of them will be gone.

I think the answer is no, but you guys will know.  When I uncheck sounds in
the VoiceOver utility, all the sounds of navigating over blank lines etc.
disappear.  I don't see a place where I can have certain sounds like the
sounds for links checked while having others unchecked.  Am I missing
something?
