OK, is this Mavericks? Also, another dumb question, but you have display set to be discovered? I have read reports for Mavericks that some Bluetooth Braille displays are not pairing properly. The important factor is if you are pairing the device for the first time. In other words, if you have upgraded from Mountain Lion or an earlier OS, the pairing with the Braille display is fine.
