I have trained myself to hear newonces like that since I owned a computer in 
2001. and when in doubt I use a dynamic coil and amp both cheap and both you 
can buy from radio shack. lol!

I also turned off my start up sound a few times using the app that I'm going to 
post about tomorrow when the podcast gets uploaded  as I'm asleep and I have my 
mac do maintenance  stuff and I don't want to hear the bong when I'm sleeping 
lol!
