Phil: This is assbackwards. A way of life is meant to serve life. And
if one is willing to wipe out an entire civilization, then it isn't much
of a way of life to save.

Eric: Let me defamiliarize the question. The ambassador of an
intelligent species arrives from the planet Jupiter. The ambassador
explains that his species intends to take over the earth and make
everyone on earth abandon earth culture, and replace the culture with
Jovian culture. No earth religions, no earth science, literature, art, etc.

You have discovered a bomb that will stop the impending invasion, but
the only way to use it will destroy not only the invasion fleet but all
of Jovian civilization. Faced with a choice between abandoning earth's
culture(s) or exterminating the Jovian culture ... what would you do?

Your culture at the cost of destroying the Jovian culture, or abandoning
your culture and accepting the Jovian culture entirely while avoiding
the destruction of Jovian civilization. No wiggle room, quibbles,
exceptions, or negotiated possibilities. No outs, only the choice. Choose.
