HI,
In spite of what it says...Brian--you ought to move to Missouri! The fact
that this was proposed and studied ought to be enough to let you know that
you would be
surrounded by kindred spirits!

Flat Tax Study:
There was a study done for Missouri when this flat tax idea was proposed in
2003. Here is the link:

http://www.itepnet.org/mo0103an.pdf

The study showed that over 30% of the tax savings went to the wealthiest 1%
of Missourians. Those making $14,000 a year would realize about $9 a year
in savings--about 0.05% of savings.

They also said that in Missouri, because of the way federal tax is
calculated,
about 20% of Missourians who would save money on the state level would
end up paying more in federal taxes. The main reason, of course, that this
measure did not pass was because of this piece of information. The
wealthiest 1% would end up paying more in federal taxes and thus would end
up paying more than they do now. The fact that it would also hurt the lower
end was not what made them stop...

Best,
Marlena in
