the government is paying millions in compensation to British citizens and
residents formerly held at Guantanamo rather than continue fighting their court
claim that Britain colluded in their torture
probably inevitable, as the courts here have ruled the evidence cannot be kept
secret but the US has threatened retaliation if it is not.
