I always thought it was Proo.

I've also assumed it's Proo.

It is Proo (or proo), according to the various websites who mention it. I've learned that putting a proper name in quotes, followed by 'pronounced,' e.g. ["Annie Proulx" pronounced], and googling it will yield an answer. This method works fine for "Annie Proulx," not so well for "Wittgenstein," who's cited for various things he pronounced. Google should learn how to use quotes efficiently.

Great story about the xebra.
