I don't think it knocked Aristotle's socks ['sandals', corrects Geary],  
since he (Aristotle) wrote, "De generatione et corruptione", refuting Plato's  
idea
 of the soul as immortal.
 
The verb is "gignomai" (the online Liddell-Scott defines as 'come into  
being', 'become') but Mike will correct that.
