I noticed a gender-related musical convention being employed
by both movies and TV. Has anyone else noticed this?
* At the end of an act or drama, if the situation is
resolved ambiguously or tragically, the soundtrack usually
includes a FEMALE vocalist.
* At the end of an act or drama, if the situation has ended
happily or resolved according to formulaic moral
expectations, the soundtrack includes a MALE vocalist.
Check it out next time you are exposed to pop culture. The
convention is not strict and universal, but it is pervasive.
