The other day I learned that the American-Mexican word, "la siesta", comes  
from the Roman habit -- "the sixth" -- of dividing the day in six -- well,  
twelve -- hours. Therefore, the sixth hour was the middle of the 'day'. Time to 
 
sleep. 
 
On the other hand, 'nap' is Scandinavian.
