Hi, This made me think of all the people who would prefer to hold, tight-fisted, to what they have. To those who do not know how to share, how to assist the Other to achieve the dreams that were had when they were young, or, even to go to a Young One and ask what the dream is and to assist in making it possible... But, it also made me think of the ones that I know who drive the truck to feed the homeless. It made me think of the ones who give so much of their time so that Others will be able to have a platform upon which to just BE. It made me think of how some still do not value not the individual, but the position or the money. The ones who believe more in 'market-driving' rather than seeing the outcome to Society as well as the (eventual) market... It made me think of those who are either mean or, at best, simply shortsighted. It made me think of the people at the Top who walk on those at the Lower Levels--of the victimizers who create more of the same because people do not know there is a Third Way if the tension is simply held long enough... But, it also made me think of the new CEO of GE--I need to post the article on the changes he is making. He's one of the 'good guys'...even to the point where he wants to make GE go Green...(or, at least, greener <G>) It made me think of those who are still unable to see the good in the Little Ones, who blame the little ones for not being able to achieve their dreams (I need to post *that* article, too--just read it about a week ago--which talks frankly about how we are no longer able to even pursue life, liberty and happiness--those doors are being locked...yet also how most people are living in denial of the facts ...and still think it is possible.) But, it also made me think of those who DO care for the Other--and rather than looking at the One who would prefer to not care or to share (perhaps because he was victimized himself and is fearful of the world?)--I would rather look at the rest...and know that I am in Good Company ... and that we can look at this passage and know of what it says... Dollars! All their cares, hopes, joys, affections, virtues, and associations seemed to be melted down into dollars. Whatever the chance contributions that fell into the slow cauldron of their talk, they made the gruel thick and slab with dollars. Men were weighed by their dollars, measures were gauged by their dollars; life was auctioned, appraised, put up, and knocked down for its dollars. The next respectable thing to dollars was any venture having their attainment for its end. The more of that worthless ballast, honor and fair-dealing, which any man cast overboard from the ship of his Good Nature and Good Intent, the more ample stowage-room he had for dollars. Make commerce one huge lie and mighty theft. Deface the banner of the nation for an idle rag; pollute it star by star; and cut out stripe by stripe as from the arm of a degraded soldier. Do anything for dollars! What is a flag to them! -Charles Dickens Thinking Frontpage people need to reread the books by Dickens, Marlena in Missouri ------------------------------------------------------------------ To change your Lit-Ideas settings (subscribe/unsub, vacation on/off, digest on/off), visit www.andreas.com/faq-lit-ideas.html
