Subject: [lit-ideas] Cronyism in al-Qaeda

It's also an endemic cynical joke played on people in almost all
organizations.

One imagines that cronyism occurs in al-Qaeda. World-class terrorists, with
more sophisticated knowledge of cryptography, explosives, foreign languages,
concealment techniques, etc., are probably routinely passed over for
leadership
positions -- in favor of slavering morons who either have a better verbatim
memory of Qutb's writings or are related to some bigwheel al-Qaeda with
connections or plenty of baksheesh.

One possible explanation for the Shoebomber.
