In the years since Larry Gould (Dr. Lawrence Verne Gould, Jr.) has administered
Fort Hays State University in the capacities of Dean of Liberal Arts and more
recently Provost, a strange social landscape has pervaded the university
atmosphere. You could call it cronyism run amuck. Larry Gould would call it
"finding the right fit." During his tenure as an administrator people with
questionable credentials have thrived at Fort Hays State University, while
people with excellent teaching capabilities and academic backgrounds have been
remorselessly fired. Among the people Larry Gould has fired were a political
science professor whose dissertation was accepted for publication by the
University of Nebraska Press, a Fulbright Scholar whose university press book
received the Choice Outstanding Academic Book Award, and an Ivy League Ph.D.
who co-authored a major textbook. Faculty of this caliber have been sent on
their way to make room for faculty with lesser credentials. FHSU P
 resident
Ed Hammond is aware of the problem but refuses to launch an investigation
because of his close friendship with Larry Gould. To have someone like Larry
Gould serving in a position of public trust is a cynical joke on the taxpayers
and students of Kansas.
