Thinking about comedy and tragedy--how the genres mirror the natural, pre-industrial cycles of summer/feast and winter/famine. Tragedy reminds us that winter is coming; comedy reminds us that spring follows winter. Tragedy involves death (crops die, leaves fall) and comedy involves regeneration (marriage, germination of seeds, leaves return).

Should I file this under "reinventing the wheel"? Anyone know a work dealing with the comparison?

Suspecting the comparison goes back thousands of years,
Eric
