A mere reference to Peter Galbraith didn't tell me that Irene was referring
to a book and not an article. I have been unable to read my wife's mind
after 30 years and Irene's is a good deal more obtuse. After all, it is
Irene who is asking me about Galbraith. She doesn't read long articles so
it is mind boggling to imagine her reading an entire book.

I just read some reviews of Galbraith's book. I have perhaps read articles
by him in the NYROB which I subscribe to. He does write articles. I can't
recall anything as being especially significant. In regard to the reviews I
just read, he doesn't seem to have anything that I haven't previously
discussed. About 4 or 5 years ago I first discussed the possibility of Iraq
splitting up into 3 entities. I have discussed it several times since. I
probably sent one of these discussions to Irene. She rants about something
she says I won't discuss because she won't read my notes to see whether I
discuss it or not.

I have read enough about the Middle East so I often nowadays read books and
articles in which I encounter very little that is new. From the reviews of
Galbraith's book, "The End of Iraq: How American Incompetence Created a War
Without End," I suspect his book would fall into that category. But if
Irene actually did read this book, that must have been a rare and wonderful
experience for her so I can see why she might be offended that it isn't ever
present in my mind.

Your post doesn't sound too arrogant, too disrespectful. It's right in

keeping with our right to do as we please, give birth to the world, because

they're just a bunch of bearded knuckleheads anyway. Not only are you

misinformed (Lawrence doesn't even know Peter Galbraith wrote a book, not

an article, called The End of Iraq) but you think pushing the struggle into

Africa is the answer. In addition to that being immoral, what do the

African people have to do with it? but have you not heard of Somalia? That

Somalia's civil war is why al Qaeda is in there? Al Qaeda thrives on war,

and all you want is war and more war. Americans are not smart people, but

they sure love war. No wonder we're sinking a mile a minute.
