I looked at the bug report and could imagine that this is due to the fact that John (the maintainer of liblouis) uses quite old versions of autotools when he builds the release. It could be that the new version of liblouis (1.8.0) which uses gnulib in parts will fix this problem, although it is still built with the same old autotools. If the problem persists with version 1.8.0 I could try to upload a tar ball that was built with a more modern version of the autotools to the Google code page. However I would rather not have two different versions of liblouis (the one built by John with old autotools and the one built by me with relatively modern versions of the autotools).
