You all planning on flying this Saturday morning at the soccer field? Sent from Windows Mail From: Herbert Stites Sent: Sunday, June 23, 2013 3: To: lektrik_flyers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Howdy John, I just took this off my e-mail. I've been gone over this weekend at Hardy, AR on a bikers ralley. I might be able to spot it from the air on a low fly-over. Give me a call on my cell at 870-213-5474 so we can plan out a rescue mission. Herbert. I also had failed to put my phone number on the glider. An unforgiveable error in a walk around for a first flight. However, it was the second ever flight. I would like to claim an electronic or mechanical mal-function, but it was all pilot error without any report from NTSB. It was only my second flight and was not enough time to get the "feel" of the aircraft. I was going for a long approach to the landing and actually got it too far downwind. It was way overpowered which made it very difficult to fly at full throttle. I hope I learned something. It NOT ONLY hurts to loose a potentially good flying glider, your pocket book, AND your lack of skill to fly and an embarrassment to you pride. We tease Jim Higgins about his strict rules about flying in high winds and this is one time I SHOULD have reconsidered, Most losses are due to several mistakes so Mr. Wind was not the only problem. I am looking forward to another day of soaring, fun and fellowship with Lektrik Flyers. Most lost models do have a way of showing up down the road. I do wonder sometimes why an old fart like me is still playing with toys. :-)As one of my good friends from Mexico told me to say to the glider "hasta la vista". Coop, Higgins, Goose and myself all got some flying in and conditions early were superb. Things went south however after a couple of hours when Coop's 2 meter glider got downwind from him and was lost in the wooded area to the North of our flying area. It was in a heavy wooded area so there is little chance of walking it out at least during the summer to find it, and in all likelihood is lost until winter. It is times like that I wish I had a plane like Herbert has so that I could fly over the area and see if I could spot it from the air. I approximate that it is between 100 or 200 yards beyond the tree line from the edge of our flying area. We tried to find roads that might lead us into the area, but no joy. This was a glider that John has had for 10 plus years that he got when he started getting back into R/C and I was just getting into it. It is a nice balsa and fiberglass body bird and although it had a horrible maiden flight way back then, it flew like it owned the sky yesterday. Unfortunately the Earth also has something to say about who owns what and it reclaimed the plane (at least for now). About the only hope right now is maybe wait until winter when the leaves come off, and see if we can get permission to walk out there and see what big o tree that thing is resting in. It was a DEFINITE BUMMER, and we all hate things like that to happen to any flyer, but if there is any silver lining when stuff like this happens it is that we sure do enjoy the hobby none the less and hanging out with one another.
