[lektrik_flyers] New Project

I just placed an order for a Guillow's SE-5 WWI fighter. It's a rubber
freeflight kit that I hope to convert to micro R/C. I did a little online
research, and after reading numerous dire warnings about the unavoidable
catastrophe that awaits first-time R/C flyers and their lovingly-built stick
and tissue masterpieces, I decided that this is definitely the route I want to
take.

I plan to built this thing as light as possible, with capped wing ribs,
laminated balsa tail surfaces, and the whole works. At worst, we'll have a very
scale crash and I'll be out 35 bucks.

I would appreciate any advice any of you could give me in choosing
motor/prop/battery combinations, as I know nothing of electric power. The
wingspan is about 22 inches, and there's a ton of wing area, so the wing
loading should be glider-esque, but I still want plenty of power... just
because.

I've built a couple of these WWI Guillow's kits to get myself back into the
swing of modelling after I had to quit the hobby for college, and have been
impressed by the quality of these new laser-cut kits. Have any of you folks
been converting rubber-powered kits to R/C? Are there any tricks to it that I
need to know other than making everything improbably light, and are there any
advances in covering material that are lighter and might add more rigidity to
the structure than tissue?

And I'm scared to death of aileron flutter. Never dealt with any of that in
freeflight.

I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.
