Leica M3 camera voted top gadget of all time

November 20, 2006

Leica's legendary M3 camera has been voted the top gadget of all time
by the gadget experts at ebay.co.uk and Stuff magazine.

The Leica M3 was the first M series rangefinder camera to be launched
by Leica in 1954. With the first quick-exchange bayonet lens mount,
the camera was quickly adopted as the hero of reportage photography.

The award reinforces the Leica M series' lasting appeal =96 an appeal
that has continued into the digital age with the recent launch of the
Leica M8, the first digital camera to use the Leica viewfinder system.
The Leica M8 has all the key characteristics of the analogue Leica M
camera and almost all Leica M system lenses made since 1954 are
suitable for digital photography.

Speaking about the accolade, David Bell, Managing director of Leica
Camera Ltd said, "Leica is very proud that the original Leica M3, the
oldest gadget in the running, beat more modern day gadget wonders such
as the Apple iPod, Sony Walkman and the Game Boy =96 a true testament to
Leica's longevity and iconic status."

Stuff Magazine and ebay.co.uk's top ten gadgets of all time:
Leica M3
Apple iPod 3G
The original Sony Walkman
The Sony AIBO
Original Game Boy
Nintendo Entertainment System
Sinclair ZX Spectrum
Psion Series 3
Creative DAP Jukebox
