David,

the first trip will be in december, with a second trip next spring to see the sakura festival if the budget allows it. The plan at the moment is to stay in Osaka with repeated trips to Kyoto and one visit to the Byzen-Osafune Nihontô museum.

If the timing is right, I might get some very nice pictures of traditional sword making in the museum's workshop (they only show it early-ish on the first and third sunday of each month). In the worst case, I'll only bring back pictures of the treasures they have on the second floor. If I still have some film and time left after Kyoto and Osafune, I might go to Okayama to take pictures of the castle and gardens... and maybe the traditional mountain village they preserve close to Okayama.

I will probably pack lightly for the first trip... Leica SL with a 50 'cron and Rollei 35... maybe the old Eastman Kodak for some antique looking B&W landscape work (even with modern film the pictures look antique, I love it). The next trip would be Rollei SL66 with 3 backs and 40/80/150 lenses.

A really beautiful shot, I hope I'll be able to bring back such worthy pictures from my upcoming trip to Japan.

Michael:

Trust me, in Japan it's easy! Each temple is more beautiful than the one you saw yesterday... or so it seems. :)

When are you off? Where are you going?
