Not the exact same experience, David, but I have discovered that the contacts on the R8's back door are very sensitive. The winder contacts may be just as sensitive.

Hi Gary!

Yes; I, too, have had the odd problem with the contacts on the camera back. I put it down to the back being a bit "flexible". However, the winder and camera base are certainly not 'flexible" in any major degree.

Besides, I'd removed & replaced the winder several times, cleaning contacts all 'round, I even used contact cleaner and "stabilant" a anti-oxidant for contacts. All to no avail.

The winder would power the camera and rewind, but not advance the film. Then, suddenly, it worked.

I am at a loss to explain it!

Anybody have a better idea?
