Charlie, In Sulawesi, there even aren't barns on the beach :-) The sailmakers build the ships on the sand, and later they dig to can launch the ship... Even so, they are able to build superb wooden vessels (without any nail) as the ones which can be seen everyday in the "old port" of Jakarta. I took some pictures, in '97, I shall scan and post someones forward. I love the wooden ships, but especially when they are the "normal" thing, and used everyday ;-) This one were in Gambia, but I've seen someones -so beautiful- in Indonesia, where the "shipyards" are on the beach itself... Amitiés, Marc Marc, Very true! They are indeed yet more beautiful when they are worn from use. Here in New England there exist the remains of shipyards that were little more than a barn on a beach on a river close to the sea. Real shipyards are better than remains. :-) -- Charlie Falke _____ /\ | __/\__/------/__) |(____\/_________/ "One test result is worth | |/ `o one thousand expert opinions" - Wernher Von Braun 0 N4003M "Imagination is more important than knowledge" - Albert Einstein------ Unsubscribe or change to/from Digest Mode at: http://www.lrflex.furnfeather.net/ Archives are at: //www.freelists.org/archives/leicareflex/
