I don't know the K5 exactly, but I can take a guess.
You've got bank-change events in the track and when you select from the
pulldown it inserts the GM commands (possibly Controller 0, 32) *before
these. So it's changing to the GM patch you selected, then changing again in
a microsecond.
If you can pull up a complete event list, see if there are more than one
bank/program controllers in it, at the beginning.
