Good morning! The NWS in Medford has issued a winter storm warning for heavy
snow in the mountains, and a winter weather advisory for snow in areas near the
mountains, starting at 1000 today until 1000 Tuesday morning. Heavy snow and
wind will make driving very difficult in the warning area. See below for more

We have issued Winter Weather Advisories and Warnings for this snow event
because we now have enough confidence on snowfall amounts and locations.
Forecast snow amounts remain generally the same as the graphic shown on the

Moderate to Heavy Snow for Mountain Passes, Low Elevation Snow also Possible
Impacts
· Accumulating snowfall on all mountain passes.
· Downed branches or trees due to snow load possible.
· Low elevation snowfall possible.
· Cold temperatures after snowfall (particularly on Tuesday night) may
promote icing on roadways.
Forecast Confidence
· Higher elevation snow: Moderate to High
· Valley floor snowfall: Low to Moderate
o Low for accumulating snow on the Valley Floor
Timing and Strength
· Snow levels:
o Will start around 2000 feet on Monday morning and drop to around 1300 feet
late Monday night and to about 800 feet by early Tuesday morning.
· Snow: See attached graphic.
o Douglas County above 2000 feet: 6 to 10 inches.
o Cascades Passes: 12-18 inches near the passes
o Near Crater Lake: Up to 18 inches.
o Rogue Valley: trace to 3 inches.
o Jackson County above 2000 feet: 1-3 inches.
o Siskiyou Summit: 6-10 inches.
o Northern California Passes: 1-3 inches.
· Temperatures
o Will drop to low to mid 20s for west side valleys and single digits east of
the Cascades on Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Weather Summary
The next round of wintry precipitation will move into the region Monday. Snow
levels will be low enough to affect all passes in the region and are expected
to reach the valley floors by Tuesday morning. The lower snow levels will be on
the tail end of the system, and less than an inch of snow is expected on the
Valley Floors. With warm road surfaces, snow that makes it to the valley floors
should melt quickly, but will take longer to melt on bridges, overpasses, and
roads along the hillsides of the valleys. For higher elevation snowfall, snow
will begin on Monday and continue into Tuesday morning as temperatures will
lower dramatically on Tuesday night into Wednesday causing the potential for
ice to form over roadways.
