I actually disagree with you there.
Stuff like the Beatles and Klaatu doesn't date in my opinion. It's timeless.
And that is the sign of a great band.

Everything is going to sound "dated" if it's not the current style of
popular music. However, it should come down to whether or not you like that
style, or have other reason to buy it.
Beatles sounds "dated" but it's a style I enjoy and I buy their music.
Klaatu sounds "dated" but it's a style I enjoy and I buy their music.
