The RIAA are paid BY the major labels as watchdogs on their behalf for all manner of music related business stuff. The RIAA, in turn, took it upon themselves years ago to start suing illegal file sharers. The major labels never sanctioned these actions but fully supported any verdict where the file sharers were found guilty.....UNTIL RIAA sent the labels invoices for all the legal fees and sundry expenses related to the court cases on TOP of the annual fee of $3 million each label pays to be a member. Two labels in the last year have pulled their accounts with RIAA because the fees to be a member are 10 times higher than the revenue the RIAA is recovering from illegal downloading court cases. When your budget to chase file sharers is higher than your recoupables, it's time to stop chasing the file sharers.
