Here are two links you may find interesting. The first is a Frequently Asked Questions about house wiring from a Canadian perspective. One item that stood out for me was the statement that only one "grounding conductor" is allowed per house and that is the main one at the main switch panel. Any other one, such as one you would use in your ham shack, would be in violation to the building/electrical code and could have serious implications with respect to such things as house insurance.
