A college senior in MIS, who is working in my office, had an article that

methods and the Unix technicalities don't interest me at this moment, but
such terms of discussion intimate that anyone can write a browser to pick
off tokens (a technical name for  "strings") containing @, and can thus
create a list of e-mail addresses, many of which are genuine.
