I totally agree and IATA are now jumping in with a comment that is likely to see some action for compensation. IATA chief Giovanni Bisignani said: "The decision that Europe has made is with no risk assessment, no consultation, no co-ordination, no leadership." And he's perfectly right. In reality flights have continued to operate but at about 1% of normal levels and mostly business or GA. Manx 2 never stopped their operations totally (except yesterday) and I've seen Aer Arann, Aer Lingus and Ryanair flights in the last three days. I watched the BA 747 leave London and it flew right out to the Irish FIR boundary at 15W (MILKI) before coming back to land at Cardiff. Contamination was reported to be insignificant. Right now I see a King Air, Dornier 228, Sikorsky S76 and a Blue Panorama B737 on screen. Earlier a FlyBe Dash 8 was flying and an Atlantique ATP plus a few bizjets. It's a pity I can't hook you up with ADSViewer - we are currently testing a new version - as you could have seen that a lot of aircraft have still been flying. Even Gatwick had fun when the 21 ship formation from the Tiger Club flew over the airfield. There's some excellent picture online somewhere. bones bones@xxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Paul Reynolds Sent: 19 April 2010 18:46 To: jhb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jhb] Re: Flights Looks like sanity may eventually being applied and flights resuming tomorrow. Humberside is due to re-open at mid-day with the first in-bound due around 1pm followed by departure at 2pm. Great quote from Bryan Hoxford of Eastern Airways "There was a massive over-reaction, no-one asked the air operators who have far more experience of these matters than half-a-dozen meteorologists halfway up a mountain with a rain gauge". Quite high up and heading down the coast towards the IOM, was an SKA. Any gen on this one? It was overhead the North about 1636.
