Here is the perfect fix. Do not open a message window for a person who is
away. Why would you waste your time doing that anyway when you know they are
away and you can not send them a message? I am not scolding you, simply asking
an obvious question. It sure seems like a waste to me.

  afternoon or evening to all.
i am using jaws 6.20 and windows xp home and windows messenger.
I am having a strange issue.
on the main window of windows messenger i can tell when a person is set to
away.
  but here's the funny part.
when i go in to that person's conversation window to type jaws will not say,
so and so may not reply because his or her status is set to away.
can you tell me of a fix?
  Randy
