Yes, I am a new member, but some of you just saved my bacon today in a big way,
which is one big reason I decided it was probably a good idea to join this
list. I don't remember when this was posted, but someone reported having
problems with a
dell
dimension 8400 with the ATI X300 radion video card and JAWS. I am here to tell
you all that I just got the same computer and had the same problem today. If
this person has not found a solution as of yet, I have one that may work; at
least, it worked well on my computer. My husband typed into Google JAWS and
ATI X300 video card and came up with posts from this list. It is amazing what
you can come up with on Google.
anyway, come to find out that it is something with the new PCI technology and
video intercept. One person suggested that maybe seeing what ATI programs
started up, and if they can be turned off, turn them off, and then try it.
another said that 5.1 may have more support for it and try that. I thought I
had to install 5.0 first because that's the last version I had a CD for, but a
friend assured me I did not.
we did both. My husband and I know of a start-up info site called Pax Portal.
It has all kinds of info on what you can take out and what you should not.
for the one ATI thing in my start-up, it said that unless you want to customize
a lot of video settings, you can safely take it out, so I did. I then
installed my downloaded version of 5.10, which allowed me to put in my
authorization disk and copied the key right off for me, and hoila! Installed
just great, with no problems.
so unless that poor soul has already gone out and spent money on a new video
card, here is a solution, or unless he got it working.
anyway, I want to thank that gentleman for paving the way for me and also thank
all of you who provided possible solutions, even if they were shots in the
dark, because some of those shots in the dark were just the tickets.
