There was a misunderstanding. From the file menu you should select the
option to save as...

Open the save as dialog box, select the folder where you would like to save
it, I would suggest in your my templates folder just to keep all of your
templates in one location, give your template a filename that you can
remember, press tab once more, you should here save as type combo box, open
the combo box with alt plus down arrow and then press the letter D or down
arrow in till you reach document template.

Chris, I just created what I want for my template, hit alt, arrowed to "save
as" but I couldn't hit d for document template because this function was
created to save a document so all my "d's" would become a part of the name
of the document. Any further advice on how to create this? Thanks, Judith

Before you create a template from scratch you might want to check the
Microsoft Office website and see if there is a template already made that
will fit your needs.

Open Microsoft Word, create your document and when you have your template
the way you want it give it a filename. Like you do when you create any
other document the only difference is you should open the save as combo box
and press the letter D in till you hear document template. Close the combo
box and make sure your document template is saved in my templates. To open
a document template press control + O, to open the file open dialog, make
sure you are looking in my templates, open the files of type combo box,
press the letter D in till you hear document templates, go back to the file
list where you should only see document templates, select the one you want
and when it is highlighted press enter on it and it will open. Do not let a
document template intimidate you just remember all it is is a Word document.

I hope this helps.

Chris.
