Hi Cait, I too am a beginner at scripting and starting to work on a few
scripts. It took me a while to figure out how to start too, but I can point you
to the two manuals I am using so far. Go to the Freedom Scientific site and
into their training link. Tab through the training link until you find a link
to the updated "Basics of Scripting" link. Download and install this manual.
When you go to wherever you installed it, it will be in the form of a Windows
help file where you press f6 to get into the topic you want.
As for the second manual, you can go to
www.freedomscientific.com/fs_support/doc_screenreaders.asp (sorry, I can't
figure out how to write that as a link into this message). The problem with
this manual is that I can't get it to read with JAWS. It's a Word document
about 600 K. They have instructions on how to use the JAWS cursor to click on
the chapter you want. I just got off the phone with Tec-support and they said
to send an e-mail to scripts@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
In that same training link where you can get the first manual is also a list of
courses and schedules offered by FS. I took the beginner course for Customizing
JAWS for Windows and I highly recommend it. The manual can help get you
started, but I couldn't understand everything in it. It's a four-day course at
FS in Florida. If you can, you should stay for the advanced course as well
(another week). I wasn't able to stay for the advanced course, but I wish I had
now. I'm still learning the scripting language. I hope this helps to get you
started. Let me know if you need more help.

Hello,

I want to write several scripts for a few different programs. How do I
start doing this? I thought there used to be a scripting manual on the
freedom scientific site, but couldn't find it when I went there today.

thanks,
Cait
