Yes you can. Before starting the installation, connect your external hard drive to the computer and power it on. When the drive is recognized, start the installation and when it prompts you for the directory in which you want JAWS to be installed, replace c:\ with your drive letter for your external hard drive, for example, e:\. But I wouldn't recommend doing this because whenever your hard drive is turned off you won't be able to start JAWS again.
