thanks for appreciating my situation. I feel really dumb about this set of
script files, because I'm sure they must have seemed interesting or even
necessary to enhance accessibility of *something* when I got them for
myself, but I'm amazed that looking at their filenames didn't ring any
bells.

But, thanks to whoever it was who helped out by explaining to me that if I
would just open the .jss file in Notepad or whatever, the first line would
be a descriptor of the files. Well, he or something else was right; it's
meant to allow you to check download progress with a couple of control key
commands. I feel much better about this now; I must not have felt I needed
this tweaky thing very much because I don't recall ever using those
commands, having developed my own method of reading that dialogue, without
pain, and without bothering to memorize another couple of hotkey commands.

End of story, as they say. Thanks to everyone for taking a stab at
demystifying this for me. I went ahead and recompiled even though I don't
use the thing. I mean, who knows when something like that might come in
handy...?

I think I know what you mean daniel, I've done that before, downloaded a set
of script files, and then forgot them. That's me, I enjoy testing, and
modifying scripts. I'm currently working on those for msn 7.0 and jfw 6.x
even though there is going to be suport for msn 7 with new Jaws.

That's interesting. I don't recall ever downloading and installing files
for that purpose, and I've never checked out the download progress window
that way. I just route PC to Jaws and it lets me read the progress
information. this is really strange. I mean, I remember seeking out,
downloading and installing script files for a couple of applications, but
never for anything in IS or any other major Windows application. Maybe I'm
just forgetting and I saw a notice about those files somewhere, downloaded
them, but never used them?

Oh, well, So long as everything's working all right, I guess.

Daniel, I think I know about the files you are referring to, I have them.
David Ferron who was on the other jfw lite list once wrote a set of scripts
to work with the download progress in Internet Explorer when Jaws 4.51 was
released. So when you press control T, you are told the amount of time left
for the download, and if you push control S, you get the download status. At
the top of the .jss file, is a short comment about the scripts, I've pasted
it below.

Okay, I'll try that. But how come you're referring to the .jss file? that
is what comes up when I open the script manger in that program, but the
message I received was that the .jsb file needed to be recompiled...

hi,just open the .jss file in the script manager. the author of the script
usually put a comment at the top of the file.

Just in case my inquiry fell between the cracks: Does anyone have a
suggestion as to how I can figure out which application a group of Jaws
script files belongs to if the filenames don't suggest anything clearly, the
way the AdAware script files do?

Heree is a more direct way to reecompile scripts. Open the program that
needs script compiling. Then prees insert 0 on the number row. Then press
control s to recompile. Press alt f4 to close. I can't remember if you get a
message asking you to confirm to save thee change, if you do just press
enter on yes.
