Hi Don,

What synthesizer are you using? I got both representations of the numbers
just as you did and I'm using 9.0.2169 with Eloquence.

Karl

Hi Adrian,

I am back to using the second build of JAWS 9 now and both
representations you wrote came out the way I want them, as follows:

five o four, eight nine two, four o seven six

   Regards,

   Don

Don,

I'm wondering if the problem results from what might be FS's
interpretation of the correct way to write phone numbers. Traditionally,
the area code was placed in parentheses, then there was a space, then
three digits, a hyphen, and then the last four digits. Today, people
written phone numbers in a variety of ways, such as by separating the
three components by periods. However, my sense is that an increasingly
accepted method is to separate the three components by hyphens.

See how your synthesizer and JAWS read the following two representations
of the phone number you listed. First, I'll write it with the old
parenthetical. The second version will use just hyphens.

(504) 892-4076

504-892-4076

Note. My synthesizer is Dectalk Express, so I might be getting a rendering

that's different from yours.

HiNermin,

It used to sound like this:

five o four eight nine two four seven o six.

With the last two builds of JAWS 9, the same number sounds like this:

five hundred four eight hundred ninety-two four thousand seventy-six.

Regards,

Don

Hi Don,

could you give an example of what it used to sound like and how it is now?

Regards, Nermin
