Hal,
I don't have problems like you but only don't good luck to get in to the window
update website and there, I can not view the page properly.
So, I think that we talk here about two different problems.
to enable activex controls you have to press in this website alt+n for
information bar and then, right click and see there the option to run activex
control, it was at least in my case.
Thanks
Moti

Moti, I just got a new 75 gb hard drive and I'm having a similar problem, but
in my case updates aren't being installed when I use automatic updates accessed
with Jaws hotkey insert f11 to get to system tray. When I hit enter on update
button jfw 9.0 informs me that updates are being installed and that I can
continue to work while this is going on. So far so good but five seconds later
I get greeted with a message "automatic updates, close" . I then tab one time
to a list view where I find that some updates failed to install and so I just
hit escape to close the dialog. No matter what I try the updates keep failing.
How do I enable active ex controls? any other reasons why this can occur?

Subject: problem with Microsoft Update website
Hi friends,
I've reformatted my pc and installed fresh XP PRO.
So, I had to check and install all the priority updates.
I did it but in the last two days, I have problems with the website:
Microsoft update and I get a message of a problem and error:
0x80075efd or something like that and there I found a link that gave me
some instructions to solve this problem but, I didn't have good luck yet.
I must clear that I don't have any problems with other websites but with
this one, of Microsoft Update.
I remembered that I enabled the activex control to run there at the
beginning as recommended by Microsoft.
Any help
Thanks
Moti
