the need for jaws standard or jaws professional is still a matter of which version of windows 7 your computer is running, just as it always has. the home editions are fine with jaws standard, while business and ultimate require jaws professional etc. nothing has changed. elf Moderator, Blind Access Help Owner: Alacorn Computer Enterprises Specialists in customized computers and peripherals - own the might and majesty of a Alacorn! www.alacorncomputer.com proprietor, The Grab Bag, for blind computer users and programmers http://grabbag.alacorncomputer.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Ian D. Hi folks, I am using JAWS version 12 standard with Windows 7 64-bit, WindowsLiveMail and MS Office 2010, and it all works together as one would hope. JAWS professional is obviously not necessary. Having moved from Windows XP, Outlook Express and Office 2003, I am finding things that work differently, and that causes some frustration from time to time. But I am learning, and the difficulties now seem fewer. All the best, Ian Ian D. You need Jaws professional to work with 64 Bit as well as it is very nice to have jaws 12 with windows 7. Hi everyone, Well, I'm on the verge of purchasing a new laptop. I need something faster with a bit more power and definitely more memory. Everything I see now has Windows 7 premium or home edition, which is fine. However, my main concern is whether or not I need to be aware of anything when purchasing the new computer. Does the fact that it is 64 bit mean anything regarding JAWS? I will probably also be getting Office 2010. Will I have any real problems with JAWS and will there be some settings I'll need to change or can I basically install JAWS and use it out of the box? I need to definitely learn Windows 7 and Office 2010, so I figured since I'm looking for a new laptop that it would be the perfect time. Oh, are there any brands that work better than others? Thanks! Jim
