I suggest that in the group of radio buttons that lets you choose between the premium and basic interfaces, choose the basic interface. My work's e-mail has this on the login screen. First it asks you for your username, password, login, then a "what's this" link, then the two radio buttons that I mentioned. Set these to basic, then shift tab back to login, and you should get an easier-to-use interface.
