I know, but I thought I would mention it because spammers could use it to
hit him up with spam through the messenger service unless he disables it
with shoot the messenger. Better to be safe than sorry was my thinking.

You're talking about the Messenger Service. this is completely and totally separate from Windows Messenger, and whether or not you want to turn this off has nothing to do with whether or not you use Windows Messenger, as the two are not related in any remote way.

I would recommend, if you have Windows XP, just using Windows Messenger. It's there, it's ready to use, JFW has no problem with the latest version of it, life is good.
