Hi Katherine,

Just for the record, I'm another longtime jaws customer whose SMA has been
kept up to date, and I haven't received a CD of a Jaws version update for so
many years I can't even remember the last time. Without calling and asking,
that is. More than once. That's what I do every year, after waiting a month
or so once the version is released. Each time, I'm told that the Jaws
mailing system shows there was some error about my mailing address and that
the CD was sent but was returned. It's not actually clear whether they're
sure of this, but that's what they think the message is telling them when
they look at my file. We double check my address, which hasn't changed one
bit since I began using Jaws about ten years ago. They confirm that the
information's correct, but insist that something was entered wrong somewhere
along the line, and promise to resend. A few weeks later, when nothing has
come, still, I call again. They tell me there was some mailing problem,
again, and promise to investigate it, and tell me they're going to send the
CD UPS, no charge to me. having kept my temper nicely all the while (by that
time, I'm bound to have downloaded the program and at least one update), and
I thank them cordially for their generosity, since the free UPS delivery is
apparently the only sort of apology I'm going to get.

As I say, this has been happening for years. I'd say at least the past three
versions or so. Happy to say, as long as the FS Web site doesn't go down
permanently in a denial of service attack perpetrated by some inscrutable
anti-blind hacker, it's really all moot, and I have to admit the CD seems
kind of irrelevant. Redundant. Worse than redundant, actually, especially
now that they say the Real Speak voices can be download, too, and you don't
have to get them from an installation CD.

Oh, well. Tying a figurative ribbon around my figurative finger to remind
myself to take a few minutes and download whatever update they're up to of
Version 10 soon, although if it hands me as many problems and bugs as the
last several versions have, things I've mostly had to learn to live with and
work around, there'll be more time than just that I'll have to spend. So it
goes.

Hope this helps, as we say. By way of small consolation, I mean.

My SMA is up to date and I haven't received a CD since version 8 came out.

I downloaded 9 which is what I have now. Do I have to ask for version 10.00
since they haven't sent it?

Katherine
