For the record, you needn't actually shut down your screen reader to load new programs onto your computer, as it doesn't interfere in any way with OS/program functionality. While they do recommend you shut down *all* running applications, do keep in mind that most programs aren't designed to take into account that the person(s) installing them are using a screen reader or other adaptive program. That said, the jfwlite website has a few programs that allow you to either shut down everything at once or view a list of running processes and select which ones to terminate. I believe one of those programs is called "end all".
