yes, but the reason for the deleted items folder is like the purpose of the Windows Recycle bin, which is to give you a while to be sure you want those items gone. Of course you can ultra delete them as you describe. But I don't think that's likely to be a popular thing to do, just to make an end run around the safety net. But it's a personal choice, of course.
