Bill and Chris,
Well, that means it depends on the laptop. On my Dell Latitude it works,
whether it's connected to ac power or not. It reads in both situations.

If you have the A C power cord inserted, the computer is likely to tell you
that the battery status cannot be found. Only when it is running from the
battery will the battery status be found.
